2021 expedition route

The second expedition under the Narwhal sets out from Arkhangelsk on 10 June 2021. Over the course of three weeks the team will investigate the waters of the White Sea, the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea.

Several stops will be made along the way in order to unload essential equipment for polar weather stations. After passing along Novaya Zemlya the expedition will head for Salm Island – the southernmost island in the Franz Josef Land archipelago.

Researchers will spend two weeks in the waters of the archipelago, studying Arctic inhabitants by ship, helicopter and boat before returning to Arkhangelsk.

The expedition’s progress – and the further development of this project – can be followed on narwhal.ru, and on the Instagram account of the same name (https://www.instagram.com/narwhal.ru/).
